“Prowling with Poppy” Children’s Book Series
Many of our client relationships have certainly endured the test of time, and in many cases our client collaborations have sustained corporate mergers, acquisitions, or even full career changes of an individual where we’ve traveled with them to a new role or company. In this case, we continued to work with a client over the span of three decades: from his career at Northeast Utilities, to his work with the Connecticut Food Bank, and now into his retirement… Meet Tony! (Then you can meet Sara the Sowbug, Elwin the Earwig, and Snarky the Snapping Turtle.)
Tony had always been a naturalist, and to honor the years of outdoor exploring that he’s enjoyed with his grandchildren, he set out to author a children’s book series on the theme. Tony (better known as “Poppy” to his family and now to his readers) had illustrations created by Raymond J. Martin for his first three tales, and then commissioned Ink&Pixel to design the book series. We love children’s books and are always eager to embark on explorations, so we of course dove right in!
Tony is a fantastic former client and a wonderful person so it was a delight to have him back — it came as no surprise that this passion project is full of heart and purpose! Each volume contains a story of a different outdoor creature who is commonly misunderstood or even has been seen as “ugly” or “scary” by many children (or perhaps adults). The Poppy series sets out to educate and entertain young audiences by clearing up misconceptions (stereotypes) about these characters. As they explore the stories, readers see how each creature’s strange traits or habits are actually pretty cool and what makes each of them special. We absolutely love this lesson, and learned a tidbit or two ourselves!
